MÖHNESEESCHIFFFAHRT FULLY RECEIVING THANKS TO POYNTING

MÖHNESEESCHIFFFAHRT FULLY RECEIVING THANKS TO POYNTING

Möhneseeschifffahrt GmbH offers boat trips on the “Westphalian Sea”. One of the challenges faced by providers on a daily basis was a poor Internet connection. The staff and guests also want to be able to make phone calls, send messages or surf the Internet during navigation. The company has now equipped its ships with the Cradlepoint LTE router and powerful antennas from Poynting. Since then, employees and passengers benefit from a flawless Internet connection.

Lack of Internet connection on board
Imagine you are taking a boat trip on Lake Möhnesee. You will enjoy the boat trip to the full and take pictures of the beautiful landscape. Of course you want to share your impressions with your loved ones. But the internet supply in the idyllic nature reserve is so bad that you can’t send photos. The news doesn’t go out. Telephoning is also not possible on board the passenger ship.

The solution: the Cradlepoint LTE router and antennas from Poynting
This is annoying, of course, and everyone wants satisfied guests. For this reason, Möhneseeschiffahrt has equipped its ships with a Cradlepoint mobile router. Two marine antennas of the type OMNI-291 from Poynting Antennas were used for an optimal LTE reception. A Poynting WLAN-60 antenna provides for the distribution of WLAN on the entire ship. With the router, users can make calls, write messages and share their impressions over a stable WLAN via Voice-over-IP. This significant improvement in the Internet connection can also be seen in the figures:

The download throughput before deployment was 0 (Mbps) and now 4.10 to 5.83 (Mbps) for the computer and 10.52 for the mobile phone. The upload throughput before provisioning was 0 (Mbps) and now 1.55 to 4.28 for the computer and 10.83 for the mobile phone.

Thanks to the combination of routers and high-quality antennas, Möhneseeschifffahrt can now offer its guests on board a well-functioning WLAN. Since then, the company has also used this as an advertising platform, because WLAN during a shipping trip is still not a matter of course today. The operator is also planning to connect further telephones on board and to link GPS. In this way, passengers will be able to enjoy shipping even more in the future and no longer have to worry about their Internet connection.

We are very surprised by the performance and are pleased that it makes our work considerably easier” says Ulrich Grüterich of Möhneseeschiffahrt GmbH, “The additional benefit for our guests is a good argument for the trip over the lake and a service with added value”.
